Lebanon Zenith Woman's Club
The Lebanon Zenith Woman’s Club is a member of Oregon Federation of Women’s Clubs who is affiliated with the General Federatoin of Women’s Clubs, gfwc.org, an International organization which began in 1890. The Lebanon Zenith Woman’s club was organized on February 14, 1966 with 25 charter members. Many of the women had belonged to the Lebanon Junior Woman’s Club which began in 1940. The club motto is Conceive, Believe, and Acheive. The club colors are bronze and gold and the club flower is the Chrysanthemum.
This woman’s service club benefits the community in many ways. One of our biggest projects for the last 47 years is decorating the strawberry shortcake for Lebanon’s Strawberry Festival. Currently the club volunteers for the Red Cross blood drive and in recent years they helped open a library in Mill City. In 2009 they began two new projects; One is volunteering at the Pregnancy Alternative center in Lebanon helping wash, mend and sort donated baby clothes. The club donated gifts at a recent baby shower hosted by the Lebanon Elks Lodge 1663 to raise monies to rebuild the inventory at the Pregnancy Alternative Center since their fire last year. Another new project in 2009 is planting and maintaining four flower beds at the IOOF cemetary and helping plant and water the flower beds at the American Legion Post 51. We acquired a project to pull weeds in a flower bed at the local floor covering store. The store is willing to pay our club $8 an hour for an estimated time of 8 hours to generate money for our treasury.
Our continuing project is donating dictionarys to third grade school children as part of the Dictionary Project. Sponsors provide a dictionary for the children in their community each year, so they can enjoy the benefits of a large
vocabulary.
Past projects have been making lap quilts for Dialysis patients, operating a “coffee stop” trailer at the rest stop on I-5 just outside Albany and operating a used.clothing store for the needy. Over the years much time was spent on projects such as the Willamette Valley Rehabilitation Center, the Day Care Center, and Linn County ARC chapter. Members contributed as well to March of Dimes, Hillcrest School, Ronald McDonald House, installation of a spotlight to highlight the American Flag at the high school athletic field and helping to design Lebanon’s Weldwood Park. The club also contributed to a restoration project for the Lebanon Rock Hill School and the local high school Drug Free graduation parties. Another major achievement was doing the leg work on a survey to seek funding for a Meals on Wheels for Senior citizens, as well as contributing annually to the city library to provide better reading facilities.
At this time we have a membership of 11 with three charter members still active in the club. The Lebanon Zenith Woman’s Club welcomes all women who have a desire to work towards the betterment of their community.
